Making bikes and Changing Lives

What’s the maddest thing your planning to do this summer🌞

Well on the 24th of august 2019, here’s what we want to do. 8 young people and their leaders from Inchicore who learn and work on bikes in our bike skills workshop are going to Morocco.
We’re gonna build bikes with Moroccan street kids, teaching them how to build, maintain and repair bikes.

Ya whaπŸ€”

Yes, we want to bring 8 young people from our bike project up to the edge of the western Sahara and the Atlas Mountains to teach Moroccan kids about bikes. And, what's really exciting some of our young people have never been out of Ireland. But we’re not going on a holiday, it will be hot, there will be big bugs, snakes and scorpions. Every taste, smell, sight and noise will be new.

Young people will be stepping out of their comfort zone (and let’s be honest some of our lads are traumatised on the other side of the M50). They’ll be challenged with a new culture and reality of the difficult lives of other young people in North Africa.

Why there, why nowπŸ‘€

Just Ask Youth Club from Dominic St have been travelling to Morocco for the last 15 years. They've brought loads of young people to do voluntary work there. However, this year we want to bring something new, that’s new opportunities and skills for the Moroccan young people. Our group brings something very different. Practical skills, practical solidarity.

Our young people come from a community historically blighted by drugs and crime that’s struggling to rebuild itself, a community no stranger to poverty. Our young people have fewer opportunities and face many challenges in their own lives.
But this group have thrown off the labels and stereotypes and have been working hard over the years developing themselves and learning skills in our workshop programme. We are ready for this massive opportunity, ready for this challenging project.

How it will workπŸ’‘

Our young people will partner up with a street kid, they will first install a bike workshop. They will teach the Moroccan Kids how to fix and maintain their bikes.
We will leave behind the bikes and tools. The tools are left so the children can also become bike mechanics and possibly make an income. The bikes are vital so the kids can get to school.

Remember! there is no social security and many children live in abject poverty. Having a bike may be the difference between going to school or not, getting a job or not.

Values in our work✌️❤️🌏☯️

We believe at Core its vital for us to teach our young people the importance of volunteerism, being charitable, and to do things for others without expecting something in return.
We also believe participation in this project could open their minds to new identities, culture and race. This could be life changing for them and the kids in Morocco.

We need you πŸ‘‰πŸ‘©‍πŸ‘§‍πŸ‘§πŸ§Ÿ‍♂️πŸ‘©‍πŸ¦°πŸ§”πŸ™ˆ
